Last Wednesday we had a hard and unpleasant day, not only for Labraza, but also for all the towns where we are threatened by a wind, photovoltaic or high voltage power plant. The votes that were justified with a yes in the plenary session under the pretext of an alleged prevarication of Oion reveal the legal and partisan manoeuvres that are accepted as necessary for the elaboration of daily politics. In this case, the objective is clear, legitimizing by law the energy megaprojects with significant irregularities in their processing.

The Basque Government and Iberdrola, through their company Aixeindar, imposed locations that were out of regulation and in any case included, and this was what indicated to the other business corporations that the way was clear: they could start processing any megaproject, knowing that the first administrative response would be favorable.

They started from the most emblematic places for biodiversity, such as the Sierra de Arkamo and the Montes de Fuentes. Both were previously rejected because their impact on nature was unacceptable. It is very serious that the Basque Government has proposed these areas because they are areas that must be protected from any external attack. They clashed with an unexpected response from the local councils and the territorial defense movements. They believed that they would have sufficient support with the deployment of continuous media manipulation campaigns. And they had to go back. They use it to say that the environmental filter of the administration works.

This was followed by the wind farms of Labraza and Azazeta, which are currently the most advanced in processing. The terrifying irregularities that we have found in these proceedings have led us to judicialize them; in both cases, they have been approved for processing by the judicial body. At the same time, centers such as Kanto Blanco or Itsaraz have been falling. The latter, thanks to a report by the Provincial Council of Bizkaia, which states that it is not compatible with the care of the necrophagous birds that circulate and nest in this mountain range. It was the Provincial Council of Álava that valued the compatibility of a wind power plant with avian fauna. Here we can see the institutional position that is prevailing in the application of the same law. The arbitrary deprivation of protection of the Territory is appalling. We are subject to external business interests that change the balance of the law at will.

These external mandates are not established solely through autonomous or foral administrations. They also do it through the municipalities. The government structures closest to the people are repeating the same abusive dynamics. We have now checked in Oion, where there was an opportunity from the City Hall to stop this recklessness. It was in the hands of the councilors. There were enough reasons for this. One of them is the irregularities that the process has suffered. Another reason was the judicialization of the case. But the most important thing was that the people of Labraza said NO. And NOT above that, they have allowed the center to give its way. The unfortunate statements of a mayor who wants to stay in politics at all costs speak of the money they will receive to use it for the good of the municipality. He proposes, among other things, to focus on getting English teachers in the area. The reason they have used to justify saying YES to the wind power plant is that of prevarication, but they say they are against it.

We denounce that the approval of these strategies with an interest in the use of natural spaces for trade and industrialization leaves us without protection, and at the same time we call on the judiciary to urgently and thoroughly investigate the prevarications that may have been made in the ploy that has led us to this infamous situation.
