The Plaza del Castillo de Pamplona/Iruña will host a space for the meeting between the Basque community and its community. The project is called Laba and aims to bring the Basque “from the shore to the center”. It is a multipurpose space with five differentiated spaces: meeting point, showcase, tablated, cafeteria and laboratory.

The Laba initiative was born with the objective of making a “visual and audible” Basque in Pamplona. As the members of the association have pointed out, the Basque Country has been entrenched for a long time and, now, the time has come to go to the square: “For years we have created energy, and that magma is circling in the subsoil. It’s time to explode.” The spaces that will be created in the plaza del Castillo will serve this purpose: they will offer a space for the Basques and for anyone who wants to approach the Basque culture, a place of meeting and cultural diffusion.

Five spaces have been provided for in the project. The meeting point will be “a reference space”, a place where the Basque community “is found, known and done”. The cafeteria will serve to weave networks among the citizens, “to create and develop relationships”. The showcase and the setting will be spaces for the diffusion of the Basque culture: the first will be a space to make creations visible and accessible to the citizens; the second, a space prepared for performances – conferences, book presentations, films…. Finally, in the laboratory, it will become the space for the realization of new projects. In fact, Laba’s members want “to be active participants”, “ideas, proposals and projects, to make it a space for continuous reinvention”.

Collection

For the construction of the space, the association needs funding of EUR 30,000 and through the Itsulapikoa portal they have asked for the contribution of the citizens. They want to launch the space for the Euskaldunes of Pamplona: “Energy. Rash. Work. The Basque Country, go to the Plaza del Castillo”.
