YPG-International Declaration of Kurdistan on the demonstration in favour of Bilbao prisoners
  • YPG-International is an anti-fascist front that for years has fought against ISIS and the Turkish state during the Rojava Revolution. Basque citizens have also participated and participated. ARGIA received a note from YPG-International on the eve of the demonstration in favour of prisoners and refugees, coinciding with the call. The full note is attached as follows:
YPG-Internazionala 2023ko urtarrilaren 06a

As YPG-International, in Euskal Herria we are with thousands of people who are demanding the freedom of Basque political prisoners who have legitimately fought for socialism and the liberation of their territory. For a people who have suffered the imperialism and oppression of centuries, living in freedom for political prisoners is fairer than just. With a false peace process and the end of a military force in defence of Euskal Herria, it is even more difficult for the Spanish State and the French State to continue an aggressive strategy against Euskal Herria, denying such a basic and lasting claim. While the torturers and murderers of the state remain free, for decades millions of people have gone to the streets of Euskal Herria to reclaim the criminal prison policy of the states, without receiving a fair response from the states.

The institutionalized violence of capitalism and the occupying States of Spain and France is, of course, widespread in the Basque Country, and its prison policies are only a small example of this, showing its total intolerance to the Basque Country. And it shows that Euskal Herria needs real democracy. Therefore, in observing the Basque struggle, we should remember the words of the revolutionary leader and Basque martyrdom Argala:

"People do not exercise violence because of their taste, but because of the urgent need to have access to a human right: the right to freedom in social relations. Popular violence is always defensive against the institutionalized violence of the exploitative class and therefore absolutely legitimate”

In this regard, we express our solidarity with Euskal Herria and with the historic struggle for freedom and socialism.
