Martinique is an island in the Atlantic Ocean that forms the French State. In addition to French, its inhabitants also use Creole. On 25 May, the spokesmen of the Martinika Autonomous Assembly presented an article to convert the Creole into an official language. However, the Prefect rejects the proposal and explains that its official language, as in the whole Republic, is French. The local executive has stressed that the refusal received from the prefect is an “act of disillusionment.”
On 25 July Jean-Christophe Bouvier asks that the article be removed. He says the prefect “enforce the law,” so the article should be removed. 20 minutes explained that the President of Martinique executive Serge Letchimy has shown “time and time again” his willingness to change the relationship between France and its reflexes. It has made some changes, including the Martinique flag change.
