The Catalan architect Estela Roca Rom proposes to set up a spa hotel, a museum and a space dedicated to gastronomy in the face of the Quejana Monumental Complex. The proposal "Quejana contemporáneo", designed by herself, has been the winner of the contest of ideas convened by the Provincial Council of Álava.
Last July, the call for projects was opened to promote the Monumental Complex of Quejana as an element of economic development in the region of Aiaraldea.
In particular, Roca Rome proposes the construction of a spa hotel in the solar house of the aiareses, the creation of a museum with historical elements of the monumental complex, the organization of cultural visits and the creation of a space dedicated to gastronomy in the convent of San Juan Bautista.
Deputy General Ramiro González stressed that the winning proposal "responds to the main objective of the competition": "Identification of public, private or public-private partnerships that give relevance to the Monumental Complex of Quejana". In his words, the project should be "a lever and a stimulus" to "identify or attract future actions led by private initiative and public collaboration, be able to carry out a rehabilitation that respects these values and contribute to the development and economic diversification of Aiaraldea".
Council will start the search for promoters to develop the project "on the basis of public-private partnership"
The Diputación has pointed out that the project of the Catalan architect is committed to the construction of contemporary buildings as part of the historical heritage, under the concept of '' box in box ''. "To do this, they design an elegant and respectful intervention with the existing architecture, they propose very poetic spaces, in which values such as peace, symmetry, respect for heritage or the observation of the natural environment are evoked," the foral institution stressed.
The Deputy will now look for potential promoters who may be interested in the development of the project, "on the basis of public-private partnership", she explained. In this respect, the public institution has stressed that "this is an open approach" that will take into account other proposals that have also been submitted for competition.
The project "Echoes of the Story" by Studio Mistura S.L.P. has received the second prize of the competition, proposing the following elements for the monumental complex: "a parador, a high quality restaurant, a historical interpretation center of the lineage of the ayala and cultural events, tourism and guided tours".
