Last week a prisoner killed a cook at Mas d'Enric prison in Tarragona. This has led to protests by prison officials in some Catalan prisons, such as last Saturday, which blocked the prisons of Wad-Ras and Quatre Camins, resulting in nearly 1,200 prisoners being confined. On Friday, officials called Mas d'Enric.

But in addition, the Generalitat has committed itself to the full detention of prisoners. On the pretext of lack of staff and "security reasons" arising from protests by officials, nearly 5,000 prisoners have been fully confined in six of the nine prisons managed by the Catalan government itself.

On Friday, it was reported that the prisoners were completely closed and did not allow them to leave, as acknowledged by the Justice, Rights and Memory Council of the Generalitat, Gemma Ubasart. Prisoners have also reported that they are using as a "currency of exchange" in the prison conflict.
