LAB calls for action to be taken by the Lakua Department of Education not to repeat what happened in the canteens of the Hernani and Durana ikastolas. The union says it wants “canteens that prioritize the quality and safety of food”, “with dignified working conditions” and that put “the needs of students in the center”.

The company Serunión offers a dining menu at the Langile and Ikasbidea restaurants in Hernani. The union denounces that these are “quality” problems in the company’s dining room service.

In this sense, LAB stresses that the responsibility lies with the Basque Government, specifically the Department of Education: “What do we expect from tenders in which it is commercialized with the students’ food and the working conditions of the canteens?” He also stresses that the management of the dining room is achieved by the “company that has presented the cheapest economic offer”.

Measures of the Department of Education

Education Counselor Jokin Bildarratz stressed that “more serious cases” are being discussed and that steps are being taken to “not happen again”. The company serves seventeen schools of the 417 CAPV schools, and according to Bildarratz it has been given “some warnings”.
