As the newspapers of the Vocento group have filtered this Wednesday, the Basque Government already has in its hands a decree that would affect fines for drinking on the street. According to El Diario Vasco, the decree "Euskadi will replace fines imposed on young people who bottle with alternative measures" and will facilitate the substitution of economic compensation for community work or the possibility of participating in awareness programs and addiction treatments.

The scope of the measure will be limited and, instead of applying it to the whole of society, it is mostly for children between 18 and 25 years of age, as Naiz says. It is precisely for a part of society that has had a great media impact in recent months for gathering and drinking on the street. Aiende S. de El Diario Vasco Reading the words of journalist Jiménez, the decree can be understood as a deterrent measure that aims to influence the leisure habits of people of this age group. It says: "This punitive measure, which is ultimately paid by parents, for offending children is not educational or deterrent," he added.

The decree will also exclude tourists, which will only apply to the CAPV population.

Today, the person convicted of drinking in the street is faced with a fine ranging from EUR 30 to EUR 600. With this decree, the condemned person could choose to replace economic compensation with community work, participate in awareness programmes or start treatment of addictions, among others. Whoever wishes to opt for any of these means must inform him within 15 days, provided that he assumes responsibility for the infringement committed. In the case of minors, they will be asked for the consent of their tutors or tutors.
