Opening of the Plaza Verónica Urkiola in Hondarribia, with the objective of creating a common street
  • In order to balance the scarce presence of women in the urban landscape and in particular in the streets, the women's association Emeki de Hondarribia proposed to place women's names in seven places. The seventh Saturday opens: Plaza Verónica Urkiola Lekuona.

It is an initiative born three years ago to make the women of Hondarribia visible and to achieve a more egalitarian street. The seven seats in the village set out to bear the name of the women and the seventh will be premiered this Saturday. However, Emeki points out that this is only a starting point and that they have more names to name new streets and squares.

The other two seats are general: 8 March and Place de los Rederos. The seventh aims to pay tribute to Verónica Urkiola Lekuona, a “beloved” baker in the neighborhood where the plaza is located.
