Juan María Uriarte, a former bishop of San Sebastian for almost 21 years, died on Saturday, February 17, at the age of 90. Since he suffered the stroke he was in the hospital in Basurto and has died there.

The current bishop of San Sebastian, Fernando Prado, has announced death. Beyond their trajectory in the church, many have underlined their "contribution to peace", not least because it served as a facilitator in the Loiola peace process.

Arnaldo Otegi recalled and praised his work in the quotation made in the networks: "In what Bishop Juan Mari Uriarte has left us, I would like to recall the tireless work for the peace of this people. Thank you Juan Mari! ". Iñigo Urkullu and Imanol Pradales of the PNV have also had words of thanks.

One of his latest public works has been the publication of the book "Sex and gender for debate". In it, he says, the book "criticizes the contemporary tendency to undo gender distinctions in a broad spectrum and often confused," and at the same time tries to offer "expert hand" to those who want to immerse themselves in this "complex debate".
