The Spanish State has taken over the security of Juan Carlos I.aren during the flight, according to Marlaska
  • "No one can forget that we are talking about the head of state in Spain and, therefore, its security lies with the Spanish State," said the Minister of the Interior.

The Minister of the Interior, Fernando Grande-Marlaska, has avoided giving details about the security of the king emeritus on his trip to Algeria, in line with the opacity of the Spanish Government on this issue: "With regard to the security issues of the former head of state, it is necessary and appropriate that the Minister of the Interior should not give details about this," he said in response to a question about the financing of the security device Juan Carlos.

The Minister has, however, made a clear statement on responsibility for security: "Its security lies with the Spanish State, which has been the former head of the State," he added.
