Joaquín Beltrán's family has asked for a unique command in the search work: Head of Emergency
  • "The professionals tell us that much more can be done," they denounced, and warned that there is a risk that the search will be suspended and that the two workers who disappeared after the elections will be forgotten.

Joaquín Beltrán's family has "wholeheartedly" thanked the professionals who work in the rescue that they do there: "They're great professionals and better people, we're never going to reward enough to put their own lives at risk, to make life easier for others." They have also had words of gratitude for the media, activists, environmental disseminators, and for the citizens’ movements that have been created.

They explained that from the beginning they thought that they should let the professionals work, without hindering this work with the concerns and criticisms of the family. And that the work of clarifying responsibilities referred to the investigators and judicial institutions, especially when this summary is under secret.

On the politicians' statements, the family of Beltran, translated into writing, explained the following:

"Throughout this time, we have set aside the regrettable spectacle that has been given by representatives of different political parties, a hearing, other quotations, information, disinformation... what to say about the statements of the councillors and vice-advisers of the Basque Government. What to say about the words of the lehendakari himself.

We had a little hope when the thing went from 'being for being' to 'free bar you have'. But reality has been a long way from that. And we were still missing the story. And that is still missing, but what of those who have been at the foot of the tragedy. Because, from the first minute, the management of the rescue operations carried out by the 'political commissioners' has been absolutely absurd. It was an empty staging of content, to keep appearances before the elections. It's not worth 'self-criticism,' if nothing is criticized, if nothing is corrected."

Lack of coordination in rescue work

Beltrán's family has denounced that "the search work has been totally uncoordinated from above, and has been inadequate and insufficient". The reality is that Alberto and Joaquín are still at the mercy of the trash."

Make a single application: Let them give us back. Only then will we be able to mourn. You can't stop the search work. You can't do it like you did it.

"The professionals tell us that more can be done"

Beltran's family says they take into account the difficulties and risks involved in the rescue, but "technicians with professional experience, prestigious and qualified have told us that much more can and should be done". They claim that they will not be looking at the pre-election policy game and stress the risk that, after the elections, when this issue ceases to influence the results of politicians, it will fall into oblivion to the two missing.

The family asks for a single command

Beltran's family wants "politicians to be put aside and technicians to work." "What we want is very simple: to articulate a procedure for the Head of Emergency to be solely responsible for the rescue tasks and for him to manage all the resources involved, both public and private at work. Decide which professionals are best acquainted with each particular work and to whom to delegate all the documentation corresponding to each work".

Last message, to lehendakari

These are the last lines of the communiqué they have disseminated (translated into writing): "When a month has passed since the landfill of Zaldibar fell, reality and the story say that Alberto and Joaquín are still at the mercy of the trash. Lehendakari, we do not let you forget: In the memory of Alberto and Joaquín."
