Les Bascos denounces the deportation of Nigerian homosexual Jerry H.
  • Jerry H., Nigerian, was responsible for the persecution he faced for his sexual orientation to leave the country. Now, after the Pau Administrative Court has revoked the migrant’s appeal, it has an order to be deported immediately and the Bayonese association Les Bascos/Arcolan has organized mobilizations: “To return to Nigeria is to put your life at risk, to be aware of those who are deciding your destiny.”

The Basque LGBT association Les Bascos has sent a letter to the prefect of the department of Pyrenees Atlantiques against Jerry’s expulsion. They have asked him to reconsider his decision and take a humanitarian attitude, because the expulsion of this man to Nigeria is a "brutality" that condemns "the tragic future." Some 5,000 signatures against the expulsion have also been filed this Friday morning in front of the Bordeaux detention centre (where Jerry is present) and on Saturday they have organised a support rally for Jerry in the same place.

Les Bascos has also warned those who have to take the plane one of these days for the risk of an immediate expulsion: “Be vigilant and if you see Jerry with the police on your plane, try to block the flight: if you refuse to sit, the captain has the power to suspend the deportation.”

The association believes that Jerry's situation is dramatic: being homosexual suffered tremendous violence in Nigeria. Amnesty International has denounced the hunting of witches by homosexuals in the African country, where homosexuals are victims.
