Solana will speak at the Hotel Tres Reyes in Pamplona about “the situation we live in Spain and in Europe”, as announced by the Civil Society Navarra. The talk will start at 19:30 a.m. and the doors will open half an hour earlier.
At the same time, a number of agents have called for a rally against NATO at the hotel door: The conveners are Herri Gorri, EKB-GKB, Temperando el acero, Frente Obrero, EPK-PCE, Siriaren Alde, Askapena, Vostokerantz, Bardenas libre 2018, Herritar Batasuna and Drina Zubia Elkartea.
Javier Solana was NATO Secretary-General between 1995 and 1999. Previously, he was Minister of Culture of Spain, spokesman for the Government of Felipe González and Minister of Education and Foreign Affairs and Development Cooperation.
When he left the military organisation he held relevant positions in the field of security in the European Union. Yugoslavia was also the chief commander of Operation Althea in Bosnia-Herzegovina following the war that ravaged Yugoslavia between 1999 and 2009.
The conference was organized by the unionist association Sociedad Civil Navarra, a group that emerged as an echo of the unionist Catalan Civil Society of Catalonia, which in recent years has supported the demonstrations against the Government of Navarra, both against the ikurrina in 2017 and against this year's Basque.
