ELA has made an act to denounce that the funding that the Basque Government offers to the public university in its general budgets is “decreasing more and more” and that the funding is lower than that of other countries. These are data provided by the union and “evidence that the Basque Government does not bet on a quality public university”, he says. “All of this has a direct impact on the educational quality of the university and the working conditions”.
The union has recalled a number of cuts that have taken place in recent times, among which it stresses that “in April heating was closed, in the midst of a cold wave, unable to cope with the energy bill; in August it has been known that the works of the new School of Medicine have been paralysed by lack of funding; and the wage loss in recent years has been 16%”.
Euneiz and Culinary Center
Meanwhile, ELA stresses that the government supports private universities. He highlighted two controversial projects: “It has allowed the creation of Euneiz with a support of EUR 64 million and has provided one for the new headquarters of the Basque Culinary Center of EUR 24 million and public land.”
