The Basque Law on Education will start from the document presented by the Basque Government in the Basque Parliament, but there are several actors who have not recognized the legitimacy of this document and have appeared: STEILAS, LAB, ELA, EHIGE, CCOO, UGT, HEIZE, Platform for the Basque Public School, Zubiak Eraikiz, Student Front and Platform for the Basque Public School in Bilbao.
They have stressed, inter alia, that it is particularly significant that there are no references in the Basque Government document to segregation and to the funding model.
The new law should have at least the following points in which these agents are identified:
1. A diagnosis of the current system.
2. That it questions the current separation of networks, that it interrupts the policy of universal consultation and that it undertakes to build an educational system that has as its axis the public school.
3. Give priority to public schools and establish responsibility for the planning of an administration that guarantees equal opportunities.
4. Guarantee Europe’s average investment in education by increasing the jobs and resources that are essential.
5. An inclusive, compensatory, inclusive, co-educational, secular and free education that guarantees the integral development of all students. Based on equal opportunities, equity, social cohesion and quality. Let us face the situations of segregation we live in.
6. An own curriculum for the Basque Country.
7. A unique educational model focused on the immersion model that generates multilingual Basque students.
8. Put education at the service of society and not at the service of markets.
9. To have a democratic participation of both the educational community and the citizens in the decision and management of education.
