Today's day has begun with great intensity for the workers of Tubacex. In fact, several media outlets have already reported that there is a pre-agreement for the strike to end. But the reality is different.
Trade union representatives have received a call from the Department of Employment and Employment of the Basque Government and the Administration has explained to them that the management of the company has shown its readiness to change the paragraph that imposed the agreement. That part of the text allowed, among other things, dismissals and left in no way the negotiating process initiated by the Basque Government, the company and the trade unions.
For the time being, the works council has asked the Basque Government to meet with the plant. The multinational would also take part in the meeting and make sure that what has been announced is true. If so, the new text would be agreed between the parties to the conflict.
Following the procedure of the previous negotiating table, the workers would then decide in the trade union assemblies whether or not the agreement was approved. Therefore, the strike is not yet in the closing phase. In fact, not all workers’ organisations have the same view of the previous agreement.
Without pre-agreement
Several trade unions have told Aiaraldea Irratia that the Tubacex leadership has again informed the media before themselves of the decisions of the multinational.
In particular, the Works Council has received the appeal from the Basque Government following the announcement by the media of the pre-agreement.
