With this money they will organize in October an international congress that aims to deepen the “advances and discoveries that Mundubira brought”.
The Elkano Congress “aims to create stable networks of collaboration with researchers from different countries related to circumnavigation,” the Foundation explained. It will conclude, according to the Government, the activities that have been carried out in relation to the world of five centuries ago.
The government has already used the direct grants line with the Elkano Foundation, which in December last year granted EUR 25,000 aid for the creation of a world-centred cycling route. “Mixing culture and sport, so that any interested person can know our history and culture and perform a sport,” according to the CAPV Government.
In October 2019, in another Basque Government Government Board, this foundation was granted assistance of 63,225 euros to support the different events it has organized – conferences, publicity exhibitions, a sea march and a gastronomic day, among others, in the press release that made the aid known.
The CAPV Government itself, the Provincial Council of Gipuzkoa, the City Council of Getaria and the Mancomunidad Urola Kosta are the members of the board of this institution that was set up in 2017.
