After the summer break, in many large workplaces in Euskal Herria the normal march will not be recovered. The company Arcelor Mittal, located in Sestao (Bizkaia), has announced its inactivity after the summer holidays. "Due to poor market conditions, it is not profitable to resume production at this time," the company's management said. It seems that demand for steel has decreased, and the increase in electricity costs has also influenced. In principle this week the works of resuming the Sestao steelworks should begin, but for the time being everything is stopped.

From 7 December last year until last March the company cut production with the implementation of a temporary employment regulation dossier. It has 278 employees.

Michelin in Vitoria-Gasteiz (Araba) explained that production should stop during the four weekends of September and October. The Directorate notes that the demand for tyres has decreased, customers have requested 132,000 less tyres for the automotive sector for the month of September and demand for small tires has decreased. Thus, the automotive workshop, the semi-finished workshop and the civil engineering workshop are the three areas that will be partially interrupted in the next two months. The last three weekends of September will remain the first two workshops, while those of Civil Engineering will remain inactive on September 17, 18, 24 and 25 and on October 1 and 2.

This measure affects 1,350 operators, each of whom will lose at least one shift. Trade unions also anticipate further disruptions in Michelin in the coming months.
