End of a holiday model
  • On 6 October it was the last day of the Kilometroak festival organised by the Federation of Ikastolas of Gipuzkoa, at least as it has been so far. Next year, Amasa-Villabona will be smaller and participation will be encouraged.

From next year, the Kilometroak will have a much smaller format; it will focus on Gipuzkoa and Euskal Herria than on the town; they will organize a party to participate from the consumerist model; and they want to strengthen the claim.

The Ikastola Salbatore Mitxelena of Zarautz was the protagonist of October 6 at the Ikastola Laurentzi. Under the slogan “Ni, hi, hura… ikastola mundura!”, thousands of Euskaltzales have approached the coast of Gipuzkoa. The president of Kilometroak Kultur Elkartea, Nekane Artola, highlighted in the institutional act of opening the festival the objectives set by the ikastolas for the new course.

On the one hand, Artola has explained that solutions are being worked on to deal with the situation in the face of the serious decline in the quality and use of the Basque country. It has highlighted the following needs: “Immersion model for the entire educational system, effective language policies and collaboration among actors”.

Secondly, you referred to the fall in birth rates. Instead of starting a war between networks, it has prioritized the adoption of consensual measures.

Thirdly, he referred to the schooling of pupils of foreign origin. Artola said: “Up until now, the schooling of these students has not been carried out in a balanced way between the centers, which has entailed a risk of segregation. Changes are being made and we believe that the Department of Education should go further in that direction. We have begun to do our homework (reception plans, internal scholarship system…).
