Izaskun Lesaka, however, has a ban on being in the French state, so when he leaves prison on Monday he will be expelled from the state. In the Spanish State he has no charges, so he will be free.

The news has been reported by Kazeta.info and lawyer Maritxu Paulus has informed the media that in the French State it is not usual to grant parole along with expulsion. Lesaka was arrested in Macon in 2012, some 70 kilometres from Lyon and sentenced in a trial after 15 years in prison. In 2023, he was leaving jail.

The question raised at the beginning of March to see his freedom was curious because the court recognized that the political situation in Euskal Herria had changed and that there was no point in questioning the peace process. It is clear, however, that this is not the perspective of the procurators, who insist on putting obstacles in the way of the release of Basque prisoners. The latest cases have been by Jon Parot and Jakes Esnal. On 11 June he will decide whether the court leaves them free after 32 years.
