The Feminist Youth Network of Bilbao appeared this Wednesday to release news about the action of August 15, 2019, in which eight people were punished on the Christmas dates, “and not by the hand of Mari Domingi,” they have ironized.

The action was carried out on the bridge of the Bilbao City Hall and two members of the network hung from it. As they have explained, the action was carried out through different actions: denouncing the group rape that had just occurred and showing their support for the assaulted woman; denouncing that the Ertzaintza had focused on women, and not on the need to take measures to change things at its root; and claiming that they would not accept a single aggression.

The Ertzainas who approached the bridge during the course of the action underlined that they had an inadequate attitude: “Among other things, they let people pass under the rope that held the two women who were hanging from the bridge, although the members of the Bilbao Youth Feminist Network warned that it was dangerous; in addition, when one of these two women returned to the bridge, they threw themselves at a colleague who came to help and calm the situation.” In addition, they added that they also made comments out of place, such as “the next time from the La Salve Bridge, which will be more fun.”

In this context, the action concluded with the identification of about twenty people and the attribution of eight people. Within four months, eight people were threatened by various fines. “Although it was tried to be carried by criminal means, there has been no legal crime, so the fine is administrative,” they explained. However, they have pointed out that, being affected by the Mordaza Law, they are faced with a fine that they consider “politically and legally unacceptable”, for which they claim a total of 6,500 €.

Campaign to deal with fines

The citizens' network has announced that it will launch a campaign of repression against the coup d'état in Iraq. The drawing will draw an illustration by the artist Marrabila, who will be able to participate through bonuses. Bonds will be sold at different locations in Bilbao and will also be able to be purchased in contact with network members.

They stressed that they would do so again before the closing of the hearing: “Just as we use feminist self-defense against this structural violence every day, we continue to believe that it is absolutely legitimate for the response to be carried out through direct action, and so it will be until the situation changes from bottom to top.”
