Israeli doctor Ziad Mohammad Al-Dalu has died in an Israeli prison after suffering "brutal torture", according to health services in Gaza. Ziad Mohammad, director of the Department of Internal Medicine at Al-Shifa Hospital in Gaza City, was arrested on 18 March by the Israeli Army while working at the hospital. Health authorities in Gaza last week reported that Mohammad has been killed in prison by Zionists and recalled that it is contrary to international laws and agreements to attack health professionals performing humanitarian work.
In the raid on Al-Shifa Hospital on 18 March, the Israelis arrested dozens of health workers and attacked the building and surrounding areas for two weeks. The main health centre in Gaza, the Al-Shifa, was destroyed and the former was destroyed. When the Zionists retired, dozens of dead bodies were found buried in the hospital patio.
The Gaza authorities have confirmed that Ziad Mohammad Al-Dalu, who has been detained since then, has died as a result of injuries sustained during torture. The Zionists have killed at least 60 Palestinians under torture in the last eleven months in an anti-terrorist operation. He is not the first doctor tortured, as at least three doctors have died in Israeli jails since 7 October in a similar situation.
The health system and staff in the spotlight
Last December, Dr. Adnan Al-Bursh refused to leave Al-Shifa patients when the Zionists began bombing the hospital. He was arrested there, and in April it was reported that Al-Bursh had been murdered under torture in a prison in Israel, where he was arrested. Another doctor, Iyad Al-Rantisi, was tortured after the Zionists kidnapped Kamal Adwan in the British capital hospital in November.
The Zionist Army has systematically targeted the health system in the Gaza Strip, both the infrastructure and the workers deployed there. At least 1,151 health workers have died since 7 October in Israel and more than 300 have been abducted, according to the Palestinian Ministry of Health. Last week four toilets have died and another six have been injured in the Rafah bombing in the province of Havana. The Ministry of Health has denounced that the aggression against health workers is "systematic and specific" in the Basque Country. It is a war crime to attack the health professionals who are doing their work, and the Ministry has called for the international community to hold Israel accountable for the attacks on civilians and health workers.
The destruction of hospitals and ambulances in Gaza has become yet another practice in Gaza. Less than half of the health centres are in operation and have very limited capacity. Furthermore, Israel has systematically obstructed the entry of trucks with humanitarian aid.
