The struggle of Irun’s neighbours has borne fruit: The City Hall will not cut trees
  • The City Hall wanted to cut another 47 tilos from the same street for the fall of three trees in the Artia de Irun district because of the strong wind streaks of last year, but the neighbors have been fighting for alternatives for months and finally the Consistory has announced that it will not cut trees.

The Artiako Lagunak platform, created by the neighbours in defense of the tilos, is satisfied with the decision of the City Hall, although they will continue to pay attention, among other things, by stressing that the tilos missing from the storms and the courts should be replaced. In addition, they have accused the City Hall of acting without transparency and do not forget that it wanted to cut 47 tilos without justified cause: “A totally unbalanced decision.”

On the other hand, through the Ararteko, Artiako Lagunak requested from the City Hall various documentation that has not yet been provided.

Do not cut, look for alternatives

The City of Irun has announced a second report to analyse the situation of the trees and has announced that measures will be taken for the conservation of moles and to reduce the risk.

Instead of cutting, the Friends of Artia asked right from the beginning to bring the trees properly (“what had not been done so far”) and to stabilize to prevent the wind from melting them. It is clear to you that tilos benefit the environment and the neighborhood itself.
