Six young people have been fined with 601 euros for exhibiting the ikurrina in the Txupinazo this year in the Plaza del Ayuntamiento. Before the Sanfermines, the mayor, Enrique Maya, said there will be no persecution against the ikurriñas of San Fermín. As in previous years, the Pamplona Municipal Police established a special protocol for the Txupinazo, and this year large flags were banned from entering the plaza a few days before the Sanfermines began.
The complaints began to be processed at the end of August by the Department of Security of the City of Pamplona/Iruña, and this week the complaint and the fine have arrived. The six young people who have been denounced have announced that they will appear publicly on Friday afternoon to explain how they are going to deal with the eta complaint.
It is not the only conflict with the ikurrina that has occurred in the Chupinazo this year. In fact, EH Bildu and Geroa Bai denied the ediles to marvel at the balcony they were on, trying to pull out a little ikurrina. Councilwoman Maider Beloki had to be treated in a local hospital after being injured by incidents with local police forces.
