Lumbier City Hall will not place the poster against sexist assaults in the locality, "because it is not necessary"
  • The municipal government of Rocío Monclús has rejected the request of the Lumbier Feminist Association not to place the poster against the sexist aggressions at the entrance of the town, claiming that "it is not necessary" because "there are other aggressions". The City Hall's discourse is "very serious" and "is not willing to comply with the minimum", as explained by the local feminist group to Argia.

The Lumbier Independent Group has been governing the people for years and EH Bildu is in opposition. The feminist movement of the people presented a motion in the City Hall on the old claim to put a poster on the entrance of the people, but the municipal government has responded no. Unfortunately, their attitudes have not surprised them: "It is a very basic measure, but it has a great symbolic value, regardless of the color it governs, which is present in many peoples, even those around us, but it is not willing to comply with the minimum, and it responds with its usual attitude."

Nor is the protocol necessary

From the feminist group have set an example to ARGIA: around the festivities, several agents of the people have wanted to apply the protocol against male violence in previous years, and have also refused to do so from the municipal government with similar arguments. La Barraca and the Lumbier Feminist Group launched a collaboration protocol in the txosnagune, but its scope and capacity are limited. Finally, the municipal government has published its protocol of action, unilaterally and without the participation of anyone else in the process.

"Minimizes the gravity and specificity of male violence"

The feminist group has stressed that the discourse of the team that governs is very serious, even more so on the part of a city council that represents citizenship. "It minimizes the gravity and specificity of male violence and perpetuates the invisibility and silence of a structural problem," he added. In society in general, and in Lumbier in particular, there is still a lot of work to be done against male violence, they say from the movement. Lumbier's agents have thankfully told us they're very active and they're doing a great job, "but we have a wall ahead, behind the barrier."

The City Hall does not want to denounce the Palestinian genocide

This wall is not only suffered by the feminist movement. EH Bildu has proposed for the second time that the City of Lumbier show solidarity with the Palestinian people in the face of the massacre being perpetrated by Israel. The Independent Group, led by Rocío Monclús, has also rejected this proposal, which has been approved by many municipalities, claiming that the project does not belong to the municipal level.

According to EH Bildu, the municipal government has also dismissed the request made by the Basque support group of Lumbier, Zintzur. During the local festivities, the intention was to use a municipal space to organize activities for children in Euskera, among other things because the city council does not make any offer in Euskera. However, they have been denied this use, claiming that the space requested by Zintzur has to be available at parties. "This is one of the many decisions being made by the Lumbier Independent Group against the Basque Country," he said.
