Are teachers not at risk for coronavirus infection?
  • Schools in Vitoria-Gasteiz are closed and have internet communications between students and teachers, but despite the fact that students have to work from home, teachers are prohibited from doing it from home. “We have to go to the institute to work, more than 100 teachers from all over the Basque Country, do we not need preventive measures?”, said the professor of an institute in Vitoria-Gasteiz in the Basque Country.

In the audio sent to the radio, the teacher reported that she had asked her institute management to work from home. The answer is that the Basque Government has banned teachers from acting at the centre. The professor does not see the meaning of the decision.

“Avoid coincidence in hours”

The professor has emphasized that those who travel every day to the schools of Vitoria-Gasteiz are teachers who come from many parts of Euskal Herria. In other words, in case of infection, the virus could also spread to these municipalities. The advice the teachers have received has been that as far as possible they have joined the other teachers to avoid opening hours. But that does not seem to be a very effective measure.
