Insults
  • One of those half-truths that is repeated from Camilo José Celare to the one who wrote a famous libel a few years ago, which are often the most bitter lies, is that the Basque country has no capacity to insult. The plausible lie was not so much the denial of ability -- that is what our way of talking -- that this lack of capacity is intrinsic, and not circumstantial, but the attempt to make it believe.

Today, fortunately, we all know enough sociolinguistics to deconstruct the trap. Here, as in any other area, frequency and repetition are the keys. However, to practice correctly the noble art of insulting, there is only one analysis of what the mechanism is.

I see the insult absolutely necessary in Euskera, but I do not know if it is very realistic to want to make a campaign for the insult; the Basque unites us, we are saying it and we are saying it, and, to cast our face?

Insult, in fact, is an empty and simple word, innocent by itself, not infrequently, but always connoisseted; accompanied by tone of voice and facial expression; launched with the intention of expressing hatred, intimidating and hurting the other; what happens in a context of facts – because in principle no one is acting without any reason to insult it – and, of course, what a receiver has, as necessary as any other: Two of the 3,000 insults that made the list of the enemies and the companies, he said, and who recovers a punch, and who a simple stare of contempt, and who knows if it's more serious, who's more tense, who's more charged.

That is why I found it nice and amusing, but at the same time quite sterile, the small video that some journalists in Berria have made, in which they throw a rain of insults. They lacked recipients.

On the other hand, I see the insult absolutely necessary in Euskera, but I do not know if it is very realistic to want to campaign for the insult; the Basque unites us to say and say, and what and what to throw the crystals? I do not know whether the intention would be outside all the usual charitable and willful trades.

Perhaps, and assuming almost anyone is willing to insult, the key is to name a consignment of pagers; that is, a group of “insults” willing to be insulted in favor of the Basque Country. Is there any of that?
