Basque prisoner Iñaki Alonso leaves Córdoba prison after serving 25 years of sentence
  • According to the ETXERAT association, Basque political prisoner Iñaki Alonso left Córdoba prison on Wednesday after leaving prison. Born in Portugalete, he has been in prison for 25 years, always far from Euskal Herria. Fourteen years has spent in Herrera's prison and ten years in Cordoba's prison, and his family has paid their lives for it.

Iñaki Alonso has been released after serving in full the sentence of 25 years in prison imposed on him. He has spent the last ten years in Córdoba prison, 800 kilometres from Euskal Herria, and was formerly in Carabanchel (Madrid) and Herrera de la Mancha (Castilla-La Mancha). As Naiz explained, Iñaki Alonso was arrested by the Ertzaintza in 1995 in a raid against ETA's 'Araba command'.

Family and friends waiting for him at the door of the prison have demanded the transfer of the prisoners to Euskal Herria and their release from prison. The family of Iñaki Alonso has been one of many people who have crudely paid for the remoteness of their inmate. In 2012 his sister and two of his companions suffered an accident when they were heading to Córdoba, where they were taken to the hospital. Parents have barely been able to see their child in these long years, the mother for the last time in 2016.

I am in solidarity with Iñaki Alonso.
