  • The organization Ikasle Abertzaleak (IA) today called the High School students of Hego Euskal Herria on a strike which, in addition to conducting a strike in many schools, has brought together thousands of students in the mobilizations of the four capitals. The Student Union has also joined the call for a strike, but no agreement has been reached for the events to be held together.

The members of the Basque Nationalist Students have in recent weeks carried out numerous actions to call for a strike, and today they have come to the streets to stay capitalist offensives in Education. under the head. They stand against the educational reform being pursued by the Basque Government and in the same vein as the LOMLOE. In any case, they point out that they will take advantage of the day of strike to “combat the capitalist offensive and reclaim the socialist educational system” lived by education.

Educational reforms have been linked to the crisis we are currently experiencing, for which “capital is trying to guarantee its benefits and to do so reshapes the main social structures to ensure the production of the workforce the market needs”. The new CAPV Education Act has also been considered a clear example of this.

They denounce the dissolution of education, or what is the same, that education is being emptied of content: “It ignores the importance of knowledge development and a devaluation of training is taking place. Instead, centres are becoming a centre of pure discipline: changing the methodology (imposing the new reinforcement plan and the general baccalaureate, for example) by assessing certain competences (digital competence, entrepreneurship…) or by extending authoritarianism and infantilization”.

In this context, there is talk about the need to build an education that favours the working class, because they consider that current education is, among other things, segregating: “Qualified education is precisely the most chosen, while working students get to work as soon as possible. There is no interest in the proletarianization being maintained for a long time in the educational process, while the educational process has been increasingly meeting the needs of the proletariat. That is, education is an investment that is becoming unsustainable for many families, which today only offers an uncertain future.”

Discussion between AI and IS

The Student Union (IS) has also called for today's strike and has previously called for calls from the WFD because it considers that the distribution of forces today makes no sense. The AI, for its part, has strongly criticized the attitude of the IS, not only explaining that they have different points of view, but also using the work of IS IA. In addition to convening today’s strike, the Student Union has joined the call for strike by other agents, including the Basque trade union majority, against the new CAV Education Act.
