Report on racism and abuse against a Roma family in Pamplona
  • In a perfumery in downtown Pamplona, the head of the store called the Municipal Guard to report that a family making purchases was stealing. Five agents were held for a long time, checked all the shopping bags, checked the tickets and checked them from the top down.

The Navarra Federation of Gypsy Associations, Gaz Kalo, the La Majarí Association, the Foundation Gypsy Secretariat and SOS Racism have, last Friday, called for a concentration against the Drudi perfumery, in the centre of Pamplona, to denounce the incident that occurred on 3 January.

Ekinklik.org collects the complaint of the Roma family. Four sisters went out of shopping and claim that they had suffered a racism in the Drudi perfumery because they were allegedly stealing, according to the head of the store, although there was no evidence for it, for example, the security arc of the entrance and exit of the store did not give the alarm. Store staff called the Municipal Guard and five officers were held for a long time.

Protesters have denounced that the racism suffered by the Roma people is "structural", both in institutions and in public places. Moreover, without any evidence, they have argued that "the action of the Municipal Guard is absolutely disproportionate, unfair and illegal, as it has been a measure taken with discriminatory criteria".
