On Sunday they will protest at the beach of La Concha against the incinerators of Zubieta and Bergara
  • The Anti-Incineration Movement has called on Gipuzkoan citizens to mobilise against the incineration of waste on 11 September in Donostia at the same time as the regattas are held. The EAM militants have been demonstrating for years their protest against the incinerator built in Zubieta, but this year citizens have also joined the call against the other incinerator they want to build in Bergara. Departing from Alderdi Eder, he will focus on the remains of La Concha.

The second day of the races in San Sebastian has also been the time of mobilization against the incineration of waste in the last decade, with the human chain that annually organizes the Anti-Incinerator Movement in the beach of the Guipuzkoan capital. One more year, the organisers call on the public to come closer to exposing their protest against incinerators, with the warning that "the problem of waste is increasingly serious and widespread".

This Sunday, 11 September, at 11:00 a.m., has joined the mobilization that will take place from Alderdi Eder on the beach of La Concha, Larramendiko Arnasa de Bergara, as the Basque Government has authorised the construction of a third incineration plant in Gipuzkoa: if it is not possible to stop, the incinerator of Zubioleta

At the press conference to call for mobilisation, EAM militants have denounced: "The anti-democratic attitude of the Basque Government must be denounced, which through the Tapia law allows it to carry out any strategic project for them, going beyond the opinions and standards of the citizens and the municipalities". And they warn of the consequences of this project. "This incinerator will generate 592,000 tons of climate-compounding gases per year, 90,000 tons of contaminated water, 8,000 tons of hazardous waste, heavy metals, dioxins, among others."

And as for the incinerator who is already burning urban waste and other waste in Zubieta in recent years, the members of the AEM have recalled the accidents that have occurred in these facilities that have caused unresolved pollution: "The transformer has been burned three times, there has been a fire in the accumulated garbage, the passage of Arkaitzerreka has been contaminated twice, the ovens have been turned off and fired at at least 86 times with the overdose that this entails. At the moment, the transformer is deteriorating and garbage is being burned without generating electricity. At the same time, more than a month ago, a very serious pollution was detected in Arkaitzerreka and there is no solution on the part of those responsible," the human chain’s call for action on Sunday has been denounced.
