Last week, in Lazkao, an inscription was withdrawn that exalted the fascist uprising of 1936. It was on a wall of the convent of the Cistercian nuns, facing the street, opposite the palace of the Duke of Infantado. 8-9 days ago the plate was released and removed. There's a hole in the bottom of the shield.
The plaque was contrary to the Law of Historical Memory. The letter stated that the war of 1936 had been a “holy crusade” and paid tribute to the military killed in comparison with the Francoists. According to the same plate, in 1940 the Duke of Etxague, Joaquín Arteaga, placed it on the third centenary of the death of Admiral Antonio Okendo. Okendo was Mary's husband of Lazkao and both are buried in the monastery.
However, in the end, Jaime and Francisco de Borja, sons of the Duke, who died in the 1936 war, died in the “holy crusade by God and Spain”.
