Josu Bergara opted to focus on the small daily experiences in his album called The Power of Small Songs, and the newly released Asun has maintained this bet in his new work. Small and humble, however, can lead to great things, as he showed in his concert in Bilbao.
Although he does not renounce his status as a singer-songwriter, Josu Bergara has a growing group around him. As on the album, during the performance of the Teatro del Café, the Little Chord was accompanied by the whole band, seven people on stage. The piano, violin, double bass, drums, etc. were enriching for melodies and sounds. The singer’s solitary voice was accompanied by the second voices of Irati Bilbao and Nerea Alberdi. Alberdi is, in fact, the greatest ally of Bergara, since he makes compositions of songs and also plays the violin both on discs and in concerts.
In addition, the collaborators of the project helped to make the concert born of smallness great: The rap singer Rayco Sánchez participated in a song and the trichiller Delina Peñafiel rejoiced two more pieces. Not to mention the members of Ea's pintxo pot.
Since it was Thursday, it could not be said that the Teatro de Café was full of people, but there was a lot of public and Josu Bergara tried to connect with the audience from the beginning. He asked us to turn on the light of his cell phones to accompany the song Haikua de Primavera; later, with a small guitar in his hand, he went down to the people and sang the popular song Sueño, sueño without a microphone. Maybe that's where the concert peaked.
Interspersing the songs of his new album with others that have already made their place in his repertoire, Josu Bergara made an intimate journey from song to song, mentioning both the love affairs of his youth and the anecdotes of his little daughter. In his smallness he seeks the strength to face the injustices of the world and sent support from the stage of the Teatro del Café to the singer Valtonyc, the tweeter @erreharria and the victim of La Manada. “They want us to be silent, but we will sing to them until we are free,” he proclaimed.
Josu Bergara ordered a short concert and it was like that, it happened at full speed and we were looking forward to more. Starting from the small one proved once again that it is a way to win big bets, for which he has found the right accomplices thanks to the contribution of those of the Little Chords band.
