Last Thursday, the Basque Parliament unanimously approved the reform of the Trade Act which seeks to protect small trade. Before, EH Bildu, Elkarrekin Podemos and the PP “It will not be possible to open a new large shopping center in the surroundings of the large towns and cities of the Basque Autonomous Community. On the periphery of cities with over 30,000 inhabitants must be less than 2,500 square meters, and in smaller towns,” they presented a bill. PNV and PSE-EE also voted in favour.
The outlet town that the PNV of Hondarribia wants to build at Zaldunborda cannot be built according to the law. However, the mayor of Hondarribia, Txomin Sagarzazu, has been ahead of Parliament and last Wednesday, on the eve of the session of the Parliament of Vitoria-Gasteiz, approved that the initial processing of the Partial Plan for Zaldunborda could be carried out without consultation with the opposition, and by order of mayors.
The response of the opposition has been immediate, very angry. The other three municipal groups of the City Hall, Abotsanitz, PSE-EE and EH Bildu, have asked the mayor to rectify and reject Bildu’s proposal. Txomin Sagarzazu said the day of the investiture: “My challenge is to be mayor of all Hondarribitarras, both for Hondarribitarras and for Hondarribitarras. And I will face this challenge responsibly: I have committed myself to fulfilling it with dedication, transparency and enthusiasm. And I will use dialogue as the main tool.”
Confidence in the mayor has ended in the opposition as soon as his term of office begins.
