The Government of Navarre closed last June Ecofert Sansoain and asked for the companies to be reopened, but the Superior Court of Justice of Navarre ordered the waste treatment plant to be closed. In addition, the company has had to pay a fine of EUR 40,000. The Superior Court of Justice of Navarra stresses that the main reason for maintaining the closure is the ecological one: “Environmental protection interests must be above economic interests.”
The Police have investigated that the company is not authorised to collect sludge containing solid or sludge substances from it. However, it is concluded that identification has been changed and waste has been collected as sludge. Therefore, since 1 July the company cannot receive or ship goods. Moreover, if they find a way to open it, they will not be able to produce fertilizers.
The Government of Navarra requested last June the company Ekondakin, which manages the incinerator of Zubieta, to open a dossier of penalties.
