Twenty years after the destruction of Plaza del Castillo
  • On 23 July 2001 they began to remove the trees from the Plaza del Corazón de Pamplona. It was the beginning of the construction of the parking lot. The decision of the mayor, Yolanda Barcina, provoked numerous protests in the foral chamber.

Without the first rays of light, while the neighbors of the Casco Viejo slept, the municipal government of Yolanda Barcina of UPN sent chainsaw and excavators to the Plaza del Castillo de Pamplona. The city had not woken up and it was no coincidence: it was the beginning of the construction works of the parking in the plaza and the project of remodeling the plaza aroused controversy among the citizens.

Historians have denounced that the works were carried out without taking into account the archaeological heritage, which did not take into account the historical wealth that was under the plaza.
