Basque demands "strong" linguistic political institutions
  • Close to 25 agents from the Basque sector appeared in Baiona on 15 May. In addition to the intervention of public institutions, it has been time to make known the last edition of the Basque Country from 15 to 25 May next year.

With only one year for Euskaraldia, Euskalgintza has sent its message to the institutions from the square that has just finished the Korrika: "Value the impetus of citizenship and take firm steps in favor of the normalization and revitalization of Euskera and, therefore, of linguistic equality, social justice, social cohesion and coexistence". The need for these brave linguistic policies in favour of the Basque country is enormous, even more so in the Northern Basque Country without official status and in the southern part of Nafarroa Garaia. At the time of taking the floor, Basque cultural activity has wanted to remember that the Basque language is "a minority language", so that the Basques are "a minority community of speakers".

They begin the appearance by saying that the demand for normalization and revitalization of the Basque country is supported by the "broad social consensus". Emphasizing the pride reflected in the Korrika, they have launched the goal of hegemony: "Whether or not Vasco-speaking, we have proud to build an ecosystem around the Basque community: the Basque community, the Euskera community".

Reaffirming the spirit of cooperation

As before, the agents of the Basque industry have a clear intention to continue working for the knowledge, use and promotion of the Basque Country, and have reaffirmed their commitment to continue influencing linguistic policies along this path: "We aim to influence the use and promotion of the Basque Country, and because we are proud of what we are and what we do, we will continue together and collaborate in the construction of an Basque Country."

They will be able to collaborate, therefore, in the Basque Country from 15 to 25 May 2025: "The most radical action that the community of speakers can do in favor of the Basque Country is the use of the Basque Country; against inertia and resistance, against the current, to act in Basque. The strongest impulse for Basque policies, without waiting for anyone, is to live in Basque to the fullest. In the Basque phase, thousands of sisters and ears will change our linguistic customs, breaking their inertia and moving through the comfort zones". The press conference ended by stressing the importance of these massive national initiatives.
