Food aid applications received in Caritas Navarra in the last month are tripled
  • This group, which works to help the most needy people, has been concerned about the brutal blow of the crisis. It has hit many unprotected people for the first time from the previous crisis. From Caritas they add that more people, more families, will fall into social exclusion and poverty if no action is taken.

In April, calls for aid for the purchase of basic food in Caritas have tripled. Last year EUR 10,000 was earmarked, EUR 32,000 had already been earmarked in April this year.

"The most vulnerable groups were left unprotected in the previous crisis and now the situation has touched directly," explained Ángel Iriarte, head of Cáritas Navarra, who since 2008 "have no rights and do not have rights and created mattresses and dedicated themselves to the precarious economy". For this reason, Caritas has called for the basic income to be guaranteed, as "many people will be left with savings or have already been finished", he added. They call for a political agreement to "extend and extend aid, pay wages, pay unemployment, avoid evictions...".
