The Spanish Ministry of the Interior has reported that third-degree prisoners will be able to serve their sentence at home
  • Prisoners classified in third grade or on an open plan may serve the sentence at home, under the control of a telematic bracelet or, if there are no such devices, by telephone.

The instruction sent to prisons by the Spanish Ministry of the Interior and received by the agencies Efe and Europa Press is the development of an order that considerably reduces the exits and communications of the prisoners as a result of the coronavirus.

In this case, these measures concern both the Social Integration Centres (CIS) and the Open Prison Sections, i.e. they will only be applied in the case of prisoners who are already in third grade or in free custody.

The cases will be examined by the relevant Treatment Committee, which will decide whether the third-degree prisoner can serve his sentence at home or not.

Among the prisoners of Basque political prisoners (EPPK), Gorka Fraile is only in one CIS centre.
