For the third consecutive year, the residents of Usansolo have been in favor of their conversion into a municipality. This is shown by the results of the popular consultation held on Sunday: 81.54% of the residents of Usansolo have been in favor of the development of Galdakao and its conversion into a municipality. A total of 3,771 people were called to vote, 63.12% of whom participated in the consultation.

Usansolo's neighbors hold the same opinion as in 1987 and 2014. During these years consultations were also carried out, imposing the deannexation of Usansolo. However, the institutions did not recognize their legitimacy. Sunday’s consultation is not binding in itself either, but it has a significant difference from the previous ones: it is the last official consultation, as organised by the City Council of Galdakao. In this regard, Monika Mena, spokesman for the Usansolo Herria platform, was satisfied in the statements made to Berria: "We are happy because at least forty years later we have managed to get the City of Galdakao to officially ask us if we want to be an independent municipality," he added.

Mena has explained the next steps. It is now for the City of Galdakao to refer the result and the report of the consultation to the Provincial Council of Bizkaia, which will draw up a non-binding legal report, the last word being that of the General Assembly of Bizkaia.

From the Usansolo Herria platform they expect their will to be respected: "In memory, it is clear that Usansolo fulfils the economic, legal, sociological, viability, services conditions, etc. Therefore, what we expect from the General Meetings is that our will and decision be respected and approved, nothing else." In this case, the duration of the procedure shall not exceed two years.
