  • The charm and special emotions of the municipal elections have again been reflected on this occasion. The main results are well known: PNV, except in Pamplona/Iruña; EH Bildu, second in Donostia-San Sebastián and Pamplona/Iruña and third in Bilbao and Vitoria-Gasteiz; PSE, second in Bilbao and Vitoria-Gasteiz and third in Pamplona/Iruña and Donostia-San Sebastián.

In Vitoria-Gasteiz there has not been the tough competition as expected and the PSE, by surprise, has been the second force, leaving Miren Larrion in third place. What happened? On the one hand, the defeat of pp and the elimination of four seats by him at the hands of the PNV and the PSE. And, of course, a positive assessment of Gorka Uraran's work.

In Pamplona, despite the good results of Mayor Joseba Asiron, the best results of Navarrasuma, the bad results of Geroa Bai and the disappearance of Podemos will not let him rule. This is if the agreement that the PSOE has already considered impossible between EH Bildu, the PSN and Geroa Bai is not achieved.

The PNV leads the capitals of the CAV and, although its second position is EH Bildu or PSE, we will see if the pacts will be until now, repeating the structure of the institutions, hindering the consensus of the left and the alternative governments.

The Irundarra Borja Sémper, who has left the mark of pp, has achieved a very satisfactory result maintaining his representation in Donostia-San Sebastián, although his interpretation is not so simple, since in the General Meetings of Gipuzkoa Juan Carlos Cano, of pp, has maintained the result of 2015. Therefore, brand or not brand, in Gipuzkoa the PP results were quite “updated” since 2015. On the other hand, the great defeat of Ernesto Gasco has helped the PP to maintain its outcome, as the change of votes between these two parties has been in part remarkable.

We will therefore see whether the pacts are going to be so far, repeating the structure of the institutions – the global PNV-PSE agreement has a long life – making it difficult for real left-wing consensus and alternative governments. To do so, these two parties would collect the votes that the pp has lost, of course, to strengthen the right and the Basque constitutionalism.

And again, the heads of the four capitals, the men. There's no change in this either.
