Aiaraldea has turned to defending jobs for the 240 Glavista workers. Indeed, the risk of Glavista’s creditors’ bidding and buying process being cancelled has seriously jeopardised the future of its workers. In view of this there has been a massive demonstration on Thursday afternoon in the streets of Laudio. From the Glavista factory portal, hundreds of inhabitants of the region have demanded measures to ensure the viability of the factory.
The workers in Glavista have received the closest protection from Guardian staff. Guardian’s Business Committee has called for a 24-hour strike on Thursday to ask its management for steps to ensure Glavista’s viability. In fact, the decisions taken by the US multinational have left the competition of creditors with no solution or alternative. The workers want to require the Guardian management to negotiate the solution with the parties involved and to ensure the viability of Glavista.
In addition, the company committee considers that the situation created can harm the Guardian company, generating "mistrust" in the Laudio plant environment and compromising its future.
The strike has been a success. Guardian production has been disrupted throughout the day and only minimal services have crossed the door of the plant. The two works councils have also joined the picet made in the early morning and the meeting held at noon.
