Eldiario.es has collected the Spanish-language article on the South Korean elections, signed by Justin McCurry and Nemo Kim. According to this article, for the elections not to provoke a second wave of contamination in the country, they have changed the way of voting, disinfecting the polling stations and being obligatory to vote on the use of soap, mask and gloves to disinfect hands after measuring the temperature.

Means have been put in place for contagion to also be able to vote

First of all, they have been tested for fever and for those who have not been tested special booths have been installed. Seoul and Daegu, until recently, have been epicenters of those infected in South Korea, and they have set up special polling stations to allow more than 3,000 coronavirus patients and health workers to vote, apart from the others. Patients in quarantine have been able to vote by mail from their homes.

High participation

More people than ever have voted by post before: Over 5 million citizens. All the votes will be collected on the night of 15 April and it is expected that the turnout will be very high.

Special campaign

The candidates have not been able to use some of the habits of the campaign so far: they have been fired with elbow blows instead of holding hands, they have given speeches with mask and in small groups instead of mass rallies. The main theme of the campaign has been the management of the pandemic by Lehendakari Moon Jae-in.

The World Health Organization has set as an example the way in which South Korea has faced the pandemic, based on carrying out many tests. MarĂa Ortega explains this in this article.
