In Hego Euskal Herria the use of masks will also be mandatory on the street
  • In Hego Euskal Herria the use of masks will be mandatory in places where a distance of two meters cannot be stored, both in enclosed spaces and in the street. This was decided at the meeting held on 18 May by the Spanish Government and the regional health advisors. The details of this Order and its entry into force will be published in the coming days in the Official Gazette of the State. It has been compulsory for public transport since 3 May. Public transport is compulsory in the French Basque Country.

In Europe, the Czech Republic has been the first to be forced into the streets, and that is also the case in Portugal. In Italy, it is compulsory to do so in enclosed public spaces, not on the street. And public transport in Germany and France. The Spanish Health Advisor assured on 7 April that it would not take a decision on the obligation to make masks because they were only on the market for the population. A few weeks ago it regulated prices and has now taken the decision at the time when everyone is willing to buy.

Not to get sick, not to infect others

The World Health Organization (WHO) states on its website that "until now there is not enough evidence for healthy people to choose to use masks (medical or any kind of)." He notes that medical masks (both surgical and class N95) are scarce and should be reserved for medical personnel. It recommends the use of face masks for health personnel, for people with symptoms and for everyone who cares for the sick.

The European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control published a report on 8 April. Based on the results, all citizens recommended the use of the mask. In fact, he concluded that asymptomatic people spread the disease: "The mask helps to reduce the spread of infection by reducing the droplets that secrete infected people while breathing, and these people may not know they are infected because they have not yet begun to develop their symptoms."

The World Health Organization says they are more effective than face masks...

To protect themselves and their loved ones from COVID-19, the WHO states that "it is more effective than masks to frequently wash their hands, cover their mouth with elbow or scarf and store a minimum distance of one meter with others". Remember that as these protective measures are more effective, the use of masks should not replace the others.
