Homeless people have many characteristics, but they are mainly men, migrants, under the age of 45, and many of them have depression. Another significant fact is that, in general, the number of homeless people has increased considerably in the last decade, up to almost double in the case of CAPV. The study was conducted through a survey of people who have used sleep or food care centers in municipalities of more than 20,000 people over the past week. In the case of CAPV, the study was conducted by Eustat.

According to the data collected, Ceuta is the community with the highest number of homeless people in the state (391 people per 100,000 inhabitants), followed by CAPV with 315 people and Navarra with 214. In 2012 there were 2,090 homeless people and currently 4,456. Of these, 72% are foreigners today and 60% in 2012.

Territorially, the centers in Bizkaia receive the highest number of attendances (43%), especially in Bilbao. The largest number of unemployed in Gipuzkoa is concentrated in Donostia-San Sebastián, with 43%, and in Álava in Vitoria-Gasteiz. Using as a reference the last decade, Gipuzkoa is the territory in which the number of homeless people (180%) has grown the most, followed by Álava (132.3%) and Bizkaia (70.9%). In terms of age, always among those cared for in the CAPV, the group predominates between 18 and 29 years (37%), followed by 30-44 (32%), 45-64 (27%) and finally more than 65 (2%).

And what has led them to run out of home? If, in the year 2012, they mainly answered that they had run out of work, in the year 2022 the main reason is that after migrating you have to start from scratch, and according to the vast majority, having work would be key to getting out of that situation. Research is very extensive and CAPV data can be consulted in Eustat and State data in the INI.
