Avian influenza left serious social and economic consequences in Ipar Euskal Herria three years ago. The H5N8 virus has been detected again in Poland, Slovakia, Hungary and Romania.

The Coordination rurale has made a special appeal to the French authorities to “immediately ban the import of birds” from these countries. According to the statement, “the borders of those countries where the infection has spread”, border guards should strictly monitor.

The trade union has also made a number of recommendations to farmers and, in particular, to poultry breeders. In addition to tightening standards in biosecurity, producers of the benefits of the duck are calling for increased precaution of birds and control the quality of foie gras.
