The lawyer of Frederic Haranburu, Maritxu Paulus Basurko, said that the Paris Court of Appeal should deliberate within two months on the prosecutor ' s decision. If the deadlines are not respected, Haranburu would have to be released.
There have been many reactions to the decision taken by the Chief Prosecutor of the State or the Prosecutor:
The electorate made the following known in the general note: "The elected representatives are here and it is up to us to demand responsibility from the State, which is in Catalonia. We demand that the chief prosecutor be informed of the reality of the Basque Country. The peace situation is not easy to achieve, but we will continue on the road to peace, even if we know that we still have a long way to go.”
And at the same time, they firmly add: “We ask why the anti-terrorist prosecutor’s office does not take into account what is happening in this territory. There seems to be political justice. This is political justice. The arguments used by the Prosecutor’s Office are aggressive twins. The Public Prosecutor’s Office is completely out of date.”
The President of the Commonwealth of Iparralde, Jean Etchegaray, has been satisfied with the court’s decision, but has denounced the prosecution’s attitude. Among other things, the prosecutor said that "ETA can re-launch the armed struggle at any time." In Etchegaray’s words, “saying that ETA risks resuming armed struggle is insulting collective intelligence.”
The president of the Basque College has had some harsh words for the prosecutor: "Our territory is at peace, it is at peace with justice, but it is not at peace with the prosecutor's office. The prosecutor has appealed to the decision, since they were concerned that Frederic Haranburu was immediately released."
Senpere Mayor Vincent Bru finally added: "If Haranburu has a job offer in Senpere, there is therefore no reason why it should not be released. I appeal to the General Staff to release the prisoner of war. I met Xistor in military prison. I was also with the director and the officials. I have been told that Xistor's attitude is exemplary. It cannot be considered to be an obstacle to public order.”
