The Basque Government opened childcare schools last Monday, specifically on day 15. Some private centres have already opened their doors, while those of the Consortium will do so on 22 June. LAB, Steilas and ELA, however, believe that behind this decision lies "economic interests" and not economic interests. They demonstrated this in yesterday's mobilizations and demanded, among other things, preventive planning for the beginning of the course, an increase in resources and a decrease in ratios.
They accuse the Department of Education of the Basque Government of "acting unilaterally" in decision-making. They asked the department headed by Cristina Uriarte to “put children’s rights at the centre” and to “Haurreskolak to acknowledge the pedagogical character of the Consortium”.
The ELA trade union said on Tuesday that they have no plans for September. However, the Department of Education has turned a deaf ear to the demands of trade unions to reduce ratios and increase resources. They denounce that the company has taken the decision to "freeze spending" and "do not demand more resources" from both the Department of Education and the Basque Government. Accordingly, ELA has called for "contingency plans" for the negotiation and implementation of security measures.
