Siemens Gamesa has informed the Company Committee of Guascor in Zumaia that it plans to lay off some 15 workers from the Gipuzkoan plant. Even though the exact number of redundancies is not yet known, the will of the management has already been known.
For this reason, workers will make two-hour stoppages between 23 July and 30 August, with the aim of preventing redundancies. The ELA trade union has rejected the redundancies and has asked the company to “look for an alternative” to the current situation. “It is a disproportionate decision that does not take into account the reality of the company,” added the workers’ representation. In his opinion, the company “has other legal tools to deal with this non-structural situation”.
They said, even though the committee has tried to “look for alternatives”, the company “refused to talk about anything other than a traumatic dismissal”, ELA regretted. According to plant sources, Siemens is dealing with individual redundancies in order to avoid the process demanded by collective redundancies.
